Why are AAC blocks purchased by cubic meter?
Wall area is measured in square meters (length x height), but a wall also has thickness. AAC blocks and ALC panels are produced and sold by cubic meter, which already includes that thickness. The conversion is simple:
m³ = m² x wall thickness (in meters)
Example: 10 m² of 100 mm wall = 10 x 0.1 = 1 m³. In other words, 1 m³ of material builds about 10 m² of 100 mm wall, or about 5 m² of 200 mm wall.

AAC blocks are laid with thin-joint mortar of about 3 mm instead of the 10-12 mm mortar joints commonly used for fired clay bricks, so mortar consumption is much lower. ALC panel installation uses even less masonry mortar.
